Lenten Season
Lent is the time of remembrance and conversion of Filipino Christians to the god they believe to be the savior. Every year, Filipinos celebrate it to deepen their faith while reviving long-standing Christian traditions, such as fasting and vows. Filipinos are united in the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ for the salvation of the whole world. They believe that Jesus Christ was resurrected and will return as a testimony to what he preached to his disciples and believers.
Easter begins on Ash Wednesday, the day the devotees
cross the ashes on their foreheads as a sign of their repentance. It is also a
reminder that "everything came from the ashes, and from the ashes will
return at the end." Ash Wednesday heralds the opening of a time of
repentance, fasting, and confession, all in preparation for the terrible
passion of Jesus Christ at the hands of his persecutors. The annual tradition
lasts 40 days and ends with the Easter of Christ which is celebrated on
Sunday.
Filipinos are known for commemorating Easter. This is
their way to turn to God and turn away from their wrong ways.
