Prepare for the D
We are living in a world
full of disasters. No one will ever gonna know where and when will it occur.
Strong winds and flooding caused by a typhoon, tsunamis, destructive eruptions,
devastating landslides, and disastrous earthquakes. These are common and
harmful natural disasters in the Philippines. Structures and facilities are
getting wrecked and numerous count of deaths are incontrollable. What if these
events will happen? What are the possible things you can do? Are you prepared?
And how can we manage to save ourselves from these events.
Recently, our country is
facing one of the most destructive typhoon in 2020 which is the super typhoon
Vamco (Ulysses). The typhoon brought heavy rains and flooding in Central Luzon,
nearby provinces in Metro Manila. The flooding in Cagayan and Isabela is caused
by dam failure which overflowed the Cagayan river. The government and
volunteers are making their best to rescue and help the affected by the
typhoon.
But there is one unique
disaster that truly ruined humanity and properties around the globe. Earthquake
is caused by a sudden slip on a fault. The tectonic plates are always slowly
moving, but they get stuck at their edges due to friction. When the stress on
the edge overcomes the friction, there is an earthquake that releases energy in
waves that travel through the earth's crust and cause the shaking that we feel.
Many earthquakes have already occurred around the world just like the 1960
Valvida earthquake in Chile with the magnitude point of 9.6, the 2011 Tohoku
earthquake in Japan with 9.1 magnitude point. In the Philippines the highest
record of earthquake magnitude is the 8.3, 1918 Celebes sea earthquake. In
times of calamity, we need to be ready. That’s why the branch of government,
National Disaster Risk Reduction Management (NDRRMC) is implementing the
National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill every year instructing things what to do
when an earthquake will occur. They mainly teach here how to prepare emergency
kits, on how to duck, cover and hold and many things to know about earthquakes.
Many people are not taking practices and drills seriously because they don’t
know the importance of being safe. This activity of the government is very
functional for us because we learn proper things how to do and lessening
actions that may risk us.
We are six feet above the
ground right now so we must cherish every little thing and protect ourselves
from danger. Whenever a Disaster may occur, we need to be prepared, we need to
know things that may help us to save our lives. We do not know when and where a
Disaster will happen so we must be ready. Participate activities and practices
importantly instructing the possibilities of saving life. Whatever happens, we
must prepare for the Disaster.
